A portable storage device detachably mounted to an entertainment system capable of communicating with an information processing unit without providing any special parts having a special mechanism and increasing the processing load of the entertainment system is provided. When a file management system is loaded to a main storage device, a particular value is set to a register. ACPU checks if the contents of the register are in coincidence with the particular value before accessing a flash ROM based on the loaded contents. If they are in coincidence, the CPU accesses the flash memory and otherwise re-loads the file management system.
