The separation unit (3) to divide three phases of gas and liquid and solid materials, in a reactor, has a sedimentation vessel (21) and at least one inflow edge (7) for the three-phase mixture. It also has a sludge channel (12) for the solid sediment, which covers the sedimentation zone at its lower side against the ambient environment. The separation unit has a permeable flow barrier (8) to define a flow settling zone (9) and at least one sediment zone (18). An array of blades (10) in the vessel assists the separation of solid matter.
