The method involves providing a glass/metal composite acting as a lamp vessel seal. Power supply lines for a luminous unit are protruded from the glass/metal composite. The luminous unit is connected to its power supply lines. A lamp vessel (6) is turned up over the luminous unit and connected to the composite. The lamp vessel and the lamp vessel seal are formed as separate components which are joined by a connection unit. The fusing process takes place using a laser. An independent claim is also included for an electric lamp having a luminous unit.
