Anion-exchange resins are obtained by forming an addition compound of hexa-methylene tetramine and an insoluble cross-linked polymer containing haloalkyl groups and then decomposing said addition compound (e.g. by alkaline hydrolysis, by acid hydrolysis with or without sulphur dioxide treatment, or by treatment with formic acid) to convert the tetramine groups into primary or tertiary amine groups. The polymers preferred are the chloromethyl, chloroethyl or bromoethyl derivatives of copolymers of styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl naphthalene or acenaphthylene with divinyl benzene, ethylene dimethacrylate or divinyl ketone; poly (vinyl chloromethyl ether) obtained from poly-vinyl alcohol, formaldehyde and hydrogen chloride, or haloalkylated phenol - formalde - hyde resins also may be used.
