Promoter sequences upstream of the carp gene, vectors containing them and uses in treating cardiac disorders

A polynucleotide comprises a fragment of the sequence upstream of the coding part of the for the CARP (Cardiac Ankyrin Repeat Protein) protein. The fragment has the sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 and is capable of inducing specific expression in vivo of a gene operably linked to the polynucleotide in cardiac cells. The polynucleotide or vector comprising the polynucleotide can be used in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of cardiac insufficiency, cardiac hypertrophy, hypoxia, and for preventing rejection during cardiac transplant.
