A kiln condensing apparatus is for use in association with a conventional vented timber drying kiln. The apparatus includes at least one external chamber having least one air inlet means adapted to extract, in use, humid air from the kiln into the chamber, a condensing means configured and arranged in or about the chamber, in use, for cooling the humid air to below the dew point sufficient to condense moisture in the humid air into liquid form and allowing for the removal thereof and at least one air outlet means adapted, in use, to extract the dehumidified air from the external chamber back into the kiln. The apparatus also includes a control means for controlling the atmospheric drying conditions within the kiln.
