According to the method 5-{4-[2-(N-methyl- N-(2-pyridyl)amino)-ethoxy]benzyl}-2,4-thiazolidinedione is produced, or its tautomeric form or its salts or solvate by catalytic reduction of 5-{4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)-ethoxy]benzylidene}-2,4-thiazolidinedione or its tautomeric form or its salt or solvates. The reduction reaction is carried out at using hydrogen pressure above 1.379 x 105 Pa (20 psi), after which a pharmaceutically acceptable salt and/or pharmaceutically acceptable solvate is produced.
