Virulence genes, proteins, and their use in treating conditions associated with infection by Neisseria or gram-negative bacteria

A series of genes from Neisseria meningitidis are shown to encode gene products that are implicated in virulence. The identification of these genes therefore allows attenuated microorganisms to be produced. Furthermore, the genes or their encoded products can be used in the manufacture of vaccines for therapeutic application, including veterinary treatment. In particular the nucleotide sequence designated SEQID NO. 157 that encodes amino acid sequence designated SEQ ID NO. 158 are described.
