The ammeter has a magnetic field sensor arranged in an air gap between two faces (26`, 27```) of a magnetic shell (21) and a magnetic jumper (22), respectively. Clips (29``) and rods (29```) clamp an electric cable (3) of a battery of a motor vehicle along a clamping axis (24) parallel to a plane extending between faces of the gap, while maintaining constant gap width. The shell and jumper slide on each other by remaining in contact.
