At least one of the sample holders (13) is transferred (in)directly to another sample splitting device (40) which can be rotated and vibrated in order to evenly divide the sample portion between vessels (54) around the holder periphery. The first sample splitting device (1) is also rotated and vibrated. A feed device (2) is used to supply a sample material so that it becomes roughly evenly divided between vessels (12) in the peripheral region of the splitting device. An independent claim is also included for the sample splitting apparatus for carrying out this method, in which at least one of the sample vessels (12) in the first splitting device is connected (in)directly to a second splitting device. Each of the splitting device is connected to a drive motor (26) and vibrator (64).
