An automatic device for supplying new workpieces to a lathe or other machine-tool and removing finished workpieces therefrom, comprises an arm pivoted on a support, and a two - part carrier rotatably mounted at the free end of the arm. The work-feeding device is carried on a support 1, 3, Fig. 1, adjacent the machine (broken lines) in a lathe for turning the ring-grooves of engine-pistons. Operation of the device is initiated when a tool-holder 56 is retracted to operate a switchcontact 51 controlling a solenoid valve 28, Fig. 4. The latter admits pressure to a fluid-cylinder 43, Fig. 1, which, through rod 25 and lever 26, rotates a pin 14, Figs. 3 and 4, supporting a hollow arm 13. The arm is provided at its free end with a two-part work-holding member 16, 16<SP>1</SP>. When the arm reaches its downward limit of travel a contact 52, Fig. 1, is closed, which moves the lathe-headstock and tailstock to bring a finished workpiece B into the empty holder 16. A cylinder-device 40, Fig. 3, secured to the side of the arm 13, is next operated to move a rack 31 and pinion 32 which, through bevel-gearing and a shaft 36, rotate the work-holding end to bring a fresh workpiece A into line with the lathe-centres. The headstock and tailstock again move automatically to remove the fresh work A, Fig. 4, from holder 16<SP>1</SP>, after which the arm 13 is moved to its upper position away from the lathe. At this position, a contact 55, Fig. 1, is closed which, through piston-and-cylinder mechanism, operates to eject the workpiece B on to a delivery ramp 5. Fresh workpieces are delivered, one at a time, and in their correct positions, on to a delivery ramp 10, from where they are moved transversely into the holder part 16<SP>1</SP> of the feed-arm 13. |
