PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Kana input method by efficient Roman alphabet input with a few mistakes in input by using a numeric keyboard; and to provide electronic equipment having the Kana input method. SOLUTION: Ten numeric keys, each is provided with a basic pattern assigning five vowels in Roman alphabet constituting Kanas and five consonants of a first consonant group and an auxiliary pattern assigning ten consonants selected from a second consonant group except the first consonant group and codes. Input is usually done with the basic pattern. Hitting a specified special key allows the changeover of the basic pattern to the auxiliary pattern and vice versa. The changeover allows the input from the auxiliary pattern by one character. There are the case returning to the basic pattern after input, and the case returning to the basic pattern by automatically converting the Roman alphabet inputted with the basic pattern into the Roman alphabet assigned to the same key as that of the auxiliary pattern.
