PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operating rate of a bank note cassette by suppressing the frequency of maintenance such as supplement and extraction of bank note for each bank note cassette in a bank note handling apparatus. SOLUTION: The bank note handling apparatus is provided with two or more bank note cassettes such as a reject box 160 and channeling back boxes 170 to 172. In each bank note cassette, operation settings including operation modes such as only depositing, only dispensing and recycling and denominations to be stored are made. A control unit for the bank note handling apparatus retains history regarding depositing, dispensing and maintenance and variation in the operation setting is instructed based on this. Thus, suppression of the frequency of maintenances and improvement of the operating rate of the bank note handling apparatus are achieved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
