PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rise and fall type main rope column for extremely efficiently replacing a main rope by preceding in assembling and disassembling work of a prefabricated scaffolding. SOLUTION: This main rope column 2 supports the main rope 3 extended around the prefabricated scaffolding composed of a plurality of standards 4. The main rope column is composed of a lifting metal fitting 7 liftably installed on a post 4a of the standards 4 when a guide groove 9a arranged in a side part slides on the standard 4a, a positioning stopper 11 installed in the lifting metal fitting 7 and locking the lifting metal fitting 7 on a connecting part of the standard 4a and a horizontal bar 4b by engaging with the horizontal bar 4b of the standards 4, and a column 8 attached with a pulley 17 for extending the main rope 3 and built up in the lifting metal fitting 7.
