PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion joint device capable of surely allowing even sudden and large displacement, by following relative displacement of respective buildings with high responsiveness, by improving assembling performance by simplifying a constitution. SOLUTION: A holder 9 is fixed to a reverse surface facing an internal part 6 of a cover body 7 for partitioning a void 2 between the buildings into an external part 5 and the internal part 6. A hinge means 14 is arranged in one end part of the holder 9. The hinge means 14 is connected to an edge material 11 of one building 3. A guide member 16 is arranged in the holder 9. Rotational force is applied in the direction for rotating to the internal part 6 from the external part 5 by a rotary means 18. A projecting part 15 of the guide member 16 is arranged in a position in the closest vicinity to a wall surface of the other building, and a support member 17 is fixed to the internal part 6 side of the guide member 16. Displacement in the closely adjacent direction of the respective buildings 3 and 4, generates reaction by abutting on a wall surface 10 or the edge material 11 of one building 3 when a rotational directional support member 17 rapidly retreats the cover body 7 and the holder 9 by the projecting part 15 of the guide member 16, and smoothly and surely rotates the cover body 7 by generating the rotation moment.
