PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interpolated frame generating method for generating a correctly interpolated frame in an occlusion area. SOLUTION: First and second reference frames are respectively divided into a plurality of reference areas, constituted of a plurality of pixels (S11). Correlation calculation is respectively performed between the first reference frame and two corresponding first location destination frames, and between the second reference frame and two corresponding second location destination frames so as to obtain for each reference area a plurality of motion vectors relative to first and second location destination frames (S15). A correlation value between a location area and the reference area in the location destination frame indicated by the motion vector is obtained, so as to determine whether the reference area is a high or low correlation area (S16). An interpolated frame candidate between the first and second reference frames is generated through the use of high correlation area (S17). A plurality of the interpolated frame candidates are composited with the use of a plurality of the motion vectors of the reference area, so as to generate the interpolated frame.
