Positioning device for use during diagnostic or therapeutic radiography, comprises fixing means (3), a measurement system (4), a computation and comparison unit (5), a memory unit (8), two activation means (9, 9') and a display device (6). The computer unit is used to determine the breathing flow and volume of a patient, while the first activation means stores an optimum breathing volume when an optimum position of the chest cavity is obtained, the comparison unit compares actual and reference breathing values and the display unit indicates the actual breathing volume to a patient and the exceeding of the reference volume.
