<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ticket reader capable of improving the reading rate of a code recorded on the surface of a ticket. <P>SOLUTION: The existence of an edge fold of a numbered ticket is determined on the basis of the contour data of the numbered ticket, and when an edge fold is detected, the contour data of the numbered ticket are corrected. The position (positional data) of a bar code recorded on the surface of the numbered ticket is found on the basis of the corrected contour data and the bar code is read on the basis of the position.
