<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical retardation film on which a birefringent layer having different orientation directions can directly be formed. <P>SOLUTION: The optical retardation film is manufactured by irradiating a polymer film surface exhibiting birefringent property with polarized light, and varying the orientation direction of only the film surface differently from that of the inside. When this film is used as the optical retardation film serving also as an orientation film, and a liquid crystal layer is formed directly on this surface, a laminated retardation film in which the optical retardation film and the liquid crystal layer exhibits different orientations can be provided. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
