PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a speed change shock of an automatic transmission at the time of multiple speed change control before it occurs. SOLUTION: An initial value of a filling counter of a clutch which is filling controlled during speed change is set at a prescribed value k, and a filling counter of a clutch which is exhaust controlled is counted down. When a required speed change step is updated during the speed change, whether a filling condition of a hydraulic fluid of a clutch which is scheduled to be filling controlled when a speed change step is switched to a required speed change step after renewal, a clutch which is scheduled to be filled at the time of rereading, is unknown or not is determined depending upon whether the filling counter is in the course of count down or not. When the filling counter is in the course of count down, it is determined that the filling condition of the hydraulic fluid of the clutch which is scheduled to be filled at the time of rereading is unknown, then multiple speed change control, which is rereading of a target speed change step, is prohibited. Thus, the overfilling of the clutch, which is filling controlled when the speed change step is switched to the required speed change step after update, is prevented, and the speed change shock caused by the overfilling of the clutch is prevented before it occurs.
