PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift control device for a continuously variable transmission, avoiding a lack of vehicle driving force when an accelerating demand is increased with no shifting operation. SOLUTION: The shift control device for the continuously variable transmission provided on the output side of an engine selects a first shift mode for controlling the continuously variable transmission in accordance with the travelling condition of a vehicle or a second shift mode for executing up-shift using the continuously variable transmission in accordance with up-shift operation and executing down-shift using the continuously variable transmission in accordance with down-shift operation. It comprises a first shift control means for controlling the shift ratio of the continuously variable transmission to keep the continuously variable transmission at a constant input rotating speed when the second shift mode is selected, both the up-shift and the down-shift are not executed and a vehicle braking demand exists, and a second shift control means for keeping the continuously variable transmission at a shift ratio with the braking demand reduced when the braking demand is reduced.
