PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an optical fiber coupler with which control of the degree of coupling is easily and reproducibly conducted, manufacturing efficiency is made high and production yield is improved. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of an optical fiber coupler, a degree of couplingαof the optical fiber coupler is computed from the strength of light beams made incident on an incident port P<SB>1</SB>of an optical fiber 1 and the strength of light beams emitted from light emitting ports P<SB>3</SB>and P<SB>4</SB>of the optical fiber 1 and an optical fiber 2. Based on the computational result above, the degree of coupling of the optical fiber coupler is controlled by fluctuating the distance between a heat source 10 and a fusing section 5 along the direction normal to the longitudinal directions of the optical fibers 1 and 2 while stretching longer the fusing section 5. The control of the degree of the coupling of the optical fiber coupler is conducted by comparing the degree of couplingαand an ideal degree of coupling curveβwhich is beforehand produced.
