PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To analyze and encode the configuration of a building member to be produced, thereby enabling the building member to be counted in various patterns. SOLUTION: Based on the image information of six faces of the building member, a side code indicating the direction of each side of each of the faces and degree codes indicating the amounts of movement in the directions of X- and Y-axes are imparted. The side codes and the degree codes are collected for each face, and a face code indicating the surface configuration of each face is imparted according to them. Further, the face codes of the different faces are collected and a three-dimensional code indicating the three-dimensional configuration of the building member is imparted according to the face codes. Thus, the building member is searched for using the variety of codes and counting is done, whereby counting is made possible using a variety of patterns. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
