PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin diameter detector for detecting the diameter of a coin by a line sensor, which can precisely detect the diameter of the coin even if the coin passes through any position of a coin passage. SOLUTION: This coin diameter detector comprises the CCD line sensor 4 including a plurality of photodiodes 6 arranged on one side of the coin passage 2 for carrying the coin 1, the passage being formed by a pair of guide rails 6 and 7; and a light source arranged on the other side of the coin passage and emitting light toward the CCD line sensor, and adapted so that the diameter of the coin present between the CCD line sensor and the light source is detected based on the level of the light emitted from the light source and received by the photodiodes of the CCD line sensor. In the CCD line sensor, the plurality of photodiodes are arranged linearly with an angle of 15°or more to the lateral direction of the coin passage. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
