PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress a large-size file system image collected for a backup or the like. SOLUTION: A file inside the file system image is recognized as thoroughly as possible, and is compressed in file units by use of a general-purpose compression method first. Next, when the same file as the other (a reference file image) is included when there are a plurality of file system images, only a file name in the reference file system image and a cluster position in the processed file system image are recorded instead of data of the file to differentially compress one (the processed file system image).
