PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a scanning optical device in which temperature rise in a casing is suppressed while hermetic sealing of the casing is maintained and deterioration in image quality is suppressed. SOLUTION: The scanning optical device is provided with: a light source section having one or more light emitting points; a deflection scanning means having a rotating polygon mirror which deflects a luminous flux from the light source section for scanning; an optical member group which converges the luminous flux being deflected for scanning by the deflection scanning means onto an image carrier; a casing which stores the optical member group; and a cover which tightly seals the optical member group into the casing. The deflection scanning means is constituted of the rotating polygon mirror, a rotor section that constitutes the deflection scanning means and a circuit substrate that constitutes the deflection scanning means disposed in this order starting from the casing side, and is fixed to the cover through the circuit substrate.
