PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of much idle running time required for operation before actual cutting operation and deterioration in overall cutting efficiency due to need for a big tool path in consideration of variations if there are variations in the dimension of workpieces before cutting. SOLUTION: This cutting device includes an electric potential setting machine 6 giving a set electric potential between the cutting tool side and the workpiece side in a state where the cutting tool 2 for cutting the workpiece 5 and the workpiece 5 are separated. It further includes a sensor 15 measuring capacitance based on the electric potential given between the cutting tool side and the workpiece side by the electric potential setting machine 6, and a control device 11 judging the distance between the cutting tool side and the workpiece side and controlling the feed rate of the cutting tool 2 according to the measurement of the capacitance measured by the sensor 15.
