The appliance has a material deforming tool (2) with a main die (4) and a secondary die (5) into which a hollow body (7) with pneumatic fluid is inserted. The body has an external cross section that is smaller than the internal cross section of the main die. An end (12) of the body is cut off by a cutting edge of the tool when the body is subjected to stress. The die (5) forms a push fit (11) on the end of the body. An independent claim is also included for a method of separating and flaring an end of a hollow body.
