Production of polymers containing polyorthoester- and optionally also isocyanate-groups involves (1) preparing a polyorthoester containing NCO-reactive groups by optionally catalyzed reaction of (a) an orthoester; (b) a polyol with functionality 4-8 and number average molecular weight 80-500; and optionally (c) a 1,3-diol or a triol having the OH groups separated by >=3C; and (2) reacting the polyorthoester with a polyisocyanate.
