PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a passive infrared ray detector, which can properly set a detection area and which has little constraints in the installation place. SOLUTION: Two sensor units for forming fan-shaped detection areas of 90 degrees which are constituted into upper and lower structures are provided, wherein each sensor unit can be individually rotated by 90 degrees to the right and the left. It is constituted so that a signal is outputted from each sensor unit when an intruder travels across both the fan-shaped detection areas constituted into the upper and lower structures. A control part to which two signals from the sensor units are inputted is provided, in which the control part thereof is provided with a detection mode switching function for switching an AND-operation for generating the detection signal when there are both the input signals and an OR-operation for generating the detection signal when there is either of the input signals. An attachable/detachable light shield sheet for limiting the concentration direction of infrared energy is provided.
