PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a sufficient amount of light output and stability in light quantity in a scanning optical apparatus in which a VCSEL is used. SOLUTION: The scanning optical apparatus having: a laser beam source; a deflector which deflects a laser beam flux outputted from the laser beam source; an imaging means which focuses the laser beam flux deflected with the deflector onto a plane to be scanned; a synchronization detection means which outputs a synchronization signal of the laser beam flux in a scanning direction; and a light quantity detection means which detects the light quantity of the laser beam source, is provided with a beam branching means which branches a part of the beam deflected with the deflector into two beams, guides one of the branched beams to the synchronization detection means, and guides the other beam to the light quantity detection means.
