A process for producing a component (1) with a plastic coated member (2), especially a hybrid component for a vehicle lateral carrier or a front end component, comprises placing the member in an injection mold (12), closing the mold and premolding with plastic. Molding is carried out using e.g. a stamper. The member is at least coated with plastic, to a thickness of 1-5mm. The member consists of a number of elements formed in the mold. The injection molding tool consists of upper and lower sections (10a,10b), an injection channel (18), a cut out (23) and a sensor (24).
