PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch, by a simple structure, a movement path for an endless belt during a standby period suspending monochrome image formation, full-color image formation, or image non-formation. SOLUTION: The transfer device includes: primary transfer rollers 13a to 13d supported on respective photoreceptor drums 101a to 101d so that the primary transfer rollers are freely moved upward and downward inside the movement path so as to face across a part of an intermediate transfer belt 11; a slide member 22a for monochrome images and a slide member 22b for full-color images, which freely reciprocate in a horizontal direction; freely-swingable, L-shaped roller upward/downward moving means 21a to 21d one ends of which pivotally support transfer rollers 13a to 13d, respectively, and to the other ends of which the slide members 22a and 22b are locked; and first and second rotary cams 23a and 23b on the same axis. In addition, the three movement paths for the intermediate transfer belt 11 are selectively switched one from another according to the integral rotation of the first and second rotary cams 23a and 23b.
