PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the number of discrete states of the brain of an individual and to use the result, in the future, as a parameter for judging the most appropriate education for the individual or for judging whether the individual is suitable or not for something. SOLUTION: A polysemic figure to be viewed in two or more different ways is shown to a subject for a predetermined time. When the subject's view of the polysemic figure switches, the switching is detected and the time interval between the switchings is determined on the basis of the detection results. The cumulative number of times of occurrence of each of the determined time intervals is then calculated, and a distribution of the cumulative numbers of times is acquired by arranging the time intervals on the horizontal axis. A gamma distribution functionβ<SP>α</SP>t<SP>α-1</SP>e<SP>-βt</SP>/Γ(α) is then fitted on the distribution of the cumulative numbers of times to acquire theαvalue of the gamma distribution function. The status number which is the natural number most close to theαvalue is then calculated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
