PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus adjustable to use in a quiet environment. SOLUTION: The endoscope apparatus has an insertion section 20 having an observation optical system 111 on its front end; a body 4 having a detachable built-in battery 89b connected to the rear end of the insertion section and an attachable external battery 152 and a movable section 150 driven electrically on the outside thereof; an output control section 123 for switching the output of the movable section between a normal mode for a normal set value and a silent mode for turning down the output lower than the normal mode; and a battery detecting mechanism 146 for detecting the presence or absence of the built-in battery or the external battery. When the battery detecting mechanism detects removal of the built-in battery or attachment of the external battery, the output control section switches to the silent mode.
