A coupling device (10) for use in forming a plastics material to metal joint in a pipeline system, said device comprising:­ (i) a first component (11) comprising substantially of metal; (ii) a second component (12) comprising substantially of plastics material, the first (11) and second (12) components being joined together in a fluid tight manner, and wherein the second component (12) comprises an open-ended socket adapted to receive a pipeline component (18); characterised in that the second component (12) further comprises energy transfer means (16) with electrical terminals (17) located on the second plastic component (12), said energy transfer means (16) being adapted to cause in use the coupling device (10) and the pipeline component (18) to form a substantially fluid-tight seal therebetween.
