Method for electronically marrying two electronic components (1, 4) using a unique key (2, 5) in which a first electronic component (1), especially an EEPROM, is assigned a key (2) to a read only region of memory. During initialization of a second component (4), e.g. a processor with flash memory, it too is assigned the same key (5). The invention also relates to a method and device for preventing manipulation of the electronically stored mileage of a vehicle.
