PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce air discharge sound while preventing the intrusion of water. SOLUTION: The air deadening apparatus of the invention is constituted of two members, i.e., a fixed member 28 and a movable member 29, which separate a muffler to deaden sound by expanding air discharged from an air cylinder. The apparatus is provided with an urging member comprising bolts 31, nuts 32 and springs 33, which resiliently urges the movable member 29 to the fixed member 28. The movable member 29 is resiliently urged to and brought into close contact with the fixed member 28 by the springs 33 when air is not discharged from the air cylinder. As a result, a clearance G between both members is closed, so that the intrusion of water into the inside through the clearance is prevented even when the vehicle is washed with a high-pressure car wash. On the other hand, when air is discharged from the air cylinder, air is diffused and expanded in a cavity D formed of the fixed member 28 and the movable member 29, which opens the clearance G and discharges air into the atmosphere through the clearance G, so that sound deadening performance is exerted.
