A multi-component binder contains by weight (A) a water-soluble polysaccharide (0.1-30%); (B) an inorganic salt other than borax (0.1-8%); (C) a salt of a dicarboxylic acid (0-5%); (D) a polyhydric alcohol (0-10%); and (E) a hydrophilic diluent (60-99.8%).
