A method of activating a local terminal (7) that is connectable to a network (1) includes a server (2) transmitting via the same or a second network (5) an activation code to a permanently accessible local activation module (6). The activation module is connected to the second network and the local terminal and, after receiving the activation code, activates the local terminal in accordance with a Calling Line Identifier (CLI) received over the second network. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a system for activating a local terminal; (b) a server including a selection means (4) for activation in various ways of a local terminal (c) and a local activation module.
