IMPROVED METHOD FOR SELECTIVELY (AMM)OXIDIZING LOW-MOLECULAR WEIGHT ALKANE AND ALKENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or an unsaturated nitrile, capable of dealing with such a problem that a total yield of oxidation products is decreased in multistage gas-phase oxidation reaction in which staged oxygen arrangement is used for converting a lower alkane, a lower alkene, and a mixture thereof into the carboxylic acid and/or the nitrile.

SOLUTION: This improved method for producing the unsaturated carboxylic acid and the unsaturated nitrile from a corresponding 3-5C alkane or a mixture of the 3-5C alkane and a 3-5C alkene includes a multistage reaction system in which both of separation of the oxidation product from not less than one intermediate discharged flow and supply of additional oxygen to a reaction zone subsequent to a first reaction zone are employed. Thus, a high conversion efficiency and a high yield of the product are realized.
