In a brooder 1 having a heater 2 disposed centrally beneath the top of an outer housing 1, a diffuser 4 mounted beneath the said heater and an air passage 5 opening at the top of the diffuser promote air circulation in the enclosure in such a manner that air rises through the passage 5, is heated by the heater 2 and deflected towards the periphery of the enclosure. The heater, which is mounted on legs 3 and connected by rods, plates or the like to the diffuser, may be a gas, electric or catalytic reaction heater, and in the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), a tube containing a circulating heating fluid is employed. The diffuser may be of conical or pyramidal shape and, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the air passage is defined between two conical members 4a and 4b. |
