<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer apparatus which is capable of efficiently transferring data while realizing protocol processing like an IP packet transfer apparatus by utilizing an inexpensive layer-2 switch or layer-3 switch without using an expensive and multi-functional IP packet transfer apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The data transfer apparatus which comprises a function of the layer-2 switch or layer-3 switch, includes a means 1 for determining a transfer destination on the basis of an MPLS label which is given to capsuled MPLS data input from the outside, and transferring the capsuled MPLS data input to the outside to the next data transfer apparatus or next packet transfer apparatus.
