PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce horizontal drive frequency, without complicating signal processings, when adding or thinning signal charges in the horizontal direction, in a solid-state imaging device having a photodetector, such as a CCD imaging device and horizontal transfer sections. SOLUTION: The solid-state imaging device includes a plurality of photodetectors 1 and a plurality of horizontal transfer sections for horizontally transferring signal charges read from the photodetectors 1. The horizontal transfer sections are provided with a first horizontal transfer register 3, wherein the number of packets of as many as horizontal photodetectors are disposed, and one or more second horizontal transfer registers 4 wherein packets as many as 1/N (N is an integer of 2 or larger and different for each transfer register) of horizontal photodetectors are disposed. If the number of signal charges per horizontal line becomes 1/N of the number of horizontal photodetectors 1, by the addition or thinning of signal charges on the horizontal direction, the number of signal charges read from the photodetectors 1 are transferred horizontally by transfer registers as many as the number of packets, corresponding to the value of N among the second horizontal transfer registers 4.
