PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a vending machine for vending a plurality of articles of different selling prices wherein a change shortage indication is based on counts of money held and may be given even if there are actually vendible articles to cause inaccurate provision of change shortage information, which misleads purchasers into thinking that articles can not be purchased owing to change shortage to miss sales opportunities and reduce sales. SOLUTION: From deposited money and a selected article, a vendibility determining means 7 determine vendibility for the deposited money. If vending is denied, a minimum number computing means 8 compute the denomination and number that gives a minimum number of additions for enabling vending, and a displaying means 9 display the computed denomination and number and a change shortage status. A change shortage status is accurately displayed for an article selected by a purchaser, and upon change shortage, a denomination and number of additions necessary to purchase the article can be displayed.
