摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low fly height while avoiding the problem of the static friction of a slider on the surface of a disk. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk which has low surface microwaviness (Wg) at a scale of about 200 microns and higher , and high surface roughness (Rq) at a scale of less than about a length of a pad of a slider for writing to the disk is provided. Preferably, the low surface microwaviness is defined by an average standard deviation of about 3 angstroms or less of topographical features of the disk surface at the prescribed scale. Also preferably, the high surface roughness is defined by an average standard deviation of about 4.5 angstroms or more of topographical features of the disk at the prescribed scale.
