PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely retrieve/classify a harmful mail or a nuisance mail by enabling the efficient retrieval/classification and display of mails received in large quantity in a short time. SOLUTION: A memory part includes m-pieces of category tables 21 with n-pieces of folders 22 set therein. A folder name, a display/non-display flag, a plurality of retrieval keywords and retrieval positions, a retrieval logic, a retrieval result mail bit map are set in a folder table 23. A character string for performing retrieval of mails is set as the retrieval keyword, and any one of a mail title, a text or transmitter address or a combination thereof is set as the retrieval position. In the retrieval logic a pattern of retrieval logic is set by "or" or "and". A received mail is retrieved/classified by the content of the received mail and the content of the folder.
