PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy various users' demands according to situations, with reference to the shortening of a printing time and the accomplishment of high image quality in terms of printing quality. SOLUTION: Regarding an alignment processing of each color performed in a color image forming apparatus wherein a transfer color image formed by superposing a plurality of color toner images formed by an image processing part 1 on a transfer belt 3, that is, an each color alignment processing of forming a correction pattern on the transfer belt 3, recognizing the correction pattern, then, calculating a correction value for preventing the positional deviation of each color based on the recognition result, the apparatus is provided with an execution mode of executing a plurality of different kinds of processing, for example, an execution mode of shortening a printing time and an execution mode of making the printed image quality higher, and each execution mode can be selected by the user, then, the user can select a printing operation including the optimum alignment processing in accordance with various use situations.
