Method and device for the in-line detection of the characteristic dimensions of ribbed profiles (10) comprising at least a core (11) and a discontinuous rib (12). The device uses a detection device comprising an emitter (14) of luminous rays (16) and a signal receiver (15) which detects the shadow subtended by the advancing ribbed profile (10), the receiver (15) being associated with a signal processing unit (17). To calculate the dimensions of the ribs (12) and/or the core (11), the signal processing unit (17) performs a step of integrating the optical signal relating to the shadow subtended by the ribbed profile (10) with an integration interval equal to the transit time of at least one pitch of the rib (12) present on the ribbed profile (10) through the luminous rays (16); a step of obtaining from this integration a video signal (18) with the shape of a widened glass; a step of determining in the video signal (18) calculation windows which include the transitions between the core (11) and the ribs (12); a step of calculating a derivative of the video signal (18) in correspondence with the windows and determining the significant points of the derivative; and a step of calculating the dimensions of the ribs (12) and/or core (11) using these significant points. |
