APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DATA TRANSMISSION WITH A REDUCED DATA VOLUME

The aim is to reduce the data rate for transmitting multimedia data. To this end, it is proposed that suitable data blocks be selected from the input data stream by a selection device (2) and that these data blocks be cut from the bit stream of an encoder (1). At the reception end, the bit stream is decoded in a decoder (3). The missing data blocks are estimated by an extrapolation device (4), and the output signal is complemented as appropriate.
